It’s just the logo for now, sure, but how long until it encroaches on the game itself? Give me maximalism, or give me nothing.

I personally believe that minimalism has been a plague on all forms of design for years, and nothing pains me more than to see it take over what was previously one of the most bombastic series out there. The irony here is that Street Fighter is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, and for Capcom to put out something that’s so quintessentially un- Street Fighter… yeah, that’s a yikes from me. Turns out the same stock logo was also used for the SF Connexion sci-fi convention in France, so this isn’t the first time this logo has made the rounds, either. The stock logo template was originally created by a user called xcoolee, but it’s entirely possible that Capcom (or any other responsible party) bought the rights to the design and altered it for Stret Fighter 6, as is allowed by Adobe when designs are for commercial use. Of course, the internet was flooded with fans sharing their takes about the new direction, and it didn’t take long for Ars Technica’s Aurich Lawson to find the resemblance between the new logo and an $80 stock design from Adobe’s website. The end of the Street Fighter 6 trailer was capped off with a flash of the game’s logo, something franchise fans usually look forward to - instead, players were faced with a basic-looking “SF” emblem with a little number 6 tacked onto it.

That’s why, when the sixth entry in the series was announced yesterday, fans were disappointed to see that the series is taking a bleak turn for the minimal. The Street Fighter series is known for its vibrant intensity, something that was prevalent in its gameplay, its fighter designs, and hell, even the fonts of its logos. KitGuru says: What do you think of the logo? Do you think the design is final? Would you like to see Capcom change it? Let us know down below.Fans aren’t happy, and I don’t blame them Hopefully it’s the former.įortunately, we won’t have too long to wait to find out whether Street Fighter 6 will eventually be treated to a new – more permanent – logo, as more information on the game is scheduled for this Summer. This could mean one of two things: either the logo is simply a placeholder, or Capcom has decided to use an $80 stock asset for the logo of one of the biggest fighting games in the world. While there are SOME differences between the two logos, the resemblance is uncanny. Then again, perhaps it is not worth analysing the logo, as Ars Technica’s Aurich Lawson discovered that SF6’s logo looks nearly identical to an $80 stock asset on Adobe’s website.

As the teaser trailer for SF6 showed very little, the logo actually offers the greatest insight into how the identity of the franchise is changing with the upcoming sequel. The new logo has none of this, instead replaced with an angular and spray painted aesthetic. Street Fighter logos have historically been designed in a way that simulates the rapid and forceful motion of fighting, combined with warm and aggressive tones of red, orange and yellow. Not only does Street Fighter 6's logo look like 80 clip art, but it also looks like the old logo of a Taiwanese company. That being said, the new logo may also simply be a placeholder, as a stock Adobe logo looks eerily similar to the announced title. Designed unlike any other Street Fighter game logo, SF6 looks to be taking the franchise in a new direction.
